Managing Director, Potash Hill, Inc.

Potash Hill, Inc., a subsidiary nonprofit organization of the Marlboro School of Music, is seeking a
person to oversee management, marketing, constituent and community relations, scheduling, and
program development for activities from September through May each year on its southern Vermont
campus.

In September, 2021, Marlboro Music purchased the campus that, since 1951, has been home to its
annual summer residency program for leadership training in music, and it created Potash Hill, Inc. to
oversee the property’s management and use. The rural, hilltop campus, formerly owned by Marlboro
College, comprises more than 50 buildings on 560 acres. It is located in Marlboro, two miles from
Vermont’s Route 9 between Brattleboro to the east and Wilmington to the west.

Reporting to the Potash Hill Board, the Manager will seek long-term and temporary tenants to ensure
that the campus is used for cultural, educational and environmental purposes throughout the year,
and becomes financially self-sustaining. The Manager will ensure that uses of the campus are
compatible with Marlboro Music’s values and summer program. The Manager will maintain good
relations with the town and explore additional ways in which the campus can benefit area residents.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Helping to develop a long-range vision for the campus and support to achieve it.
• Promoting broad awareness of the campus.
• Attracting and negotiating with tenants and partners.
• Coordinating tenant and partner facility and scheduling needs.
• Working with our operations managers to prioritize maintenance and capital needs.
• Hiring and overseeing additional staff as needed.
• Informing constituents and the local community of on-campus developments.
• Ensuring preservation of the land and caring for the historic buildings on campus.
• Budgeting and financial oversight.

communication skills; passion for arts, culture and education; appreciation of the natural landscape
and environment; and familiarity with Marlboro Music and southeastern Vermont. The Manager will
be well-organized, collegial and strategic, and will help to bring together diverse constituencies,
stake-holders, friends and donors to realize the goals and potential of Potash Hill.

Full-Time Groundskeeper

The Groundskeeper creates a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment which facilitates the administrative and educational functions of the campus. They perform a wide variety of tasks related to grounds maintenance and landscape development. A successful candidate will have a High School diploma or equivalent and a valid license to operate vehicles and machinery. On the job training for groundskeeping equipment is possible. This position will be part of a small team of valued employees.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Perform overall grounds cleanup. Primary duties include mowing, weed whacking, light cleanup, and grooming.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance on grounds equipment. Chainsaw work is possible.
• Perform trash, ice, and snow removal.
• Notify Facility Manager of all actions & ensure that all projects/tasks are completed.
• Complete tasks and respond to the needs of the campus in a timely manner.
• Perform Grounds Maintenance duties in a safe & professional manner at all times.

Full-Time Plumber

The Plumber performs routine plumbing maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair and/or renovation of building plumbing, facilities, and equipment. They inspect buildings, facilities, and equipment to ascertain needed repairs and make recommendations to the Facility Manager. A successful candidate will have a Vermont state plumbing license and experience in the repair, replacement, and construction of plumbing and piping systems. This position will be part of a small team of valued employees.

In this role, the Plumber will:
• Perform plumbing work in underground piping systems including domestic water, sewer storm drains, and other similar systems; fixtures including faucets, toilets, traps and drains, water fountains, and other similar devices.
• Install building equipment, including but not limited to, water heaters, heat exchangers, pumps and other components.
•Install meters, valves, regulators, safety devices and other components necessary to properly control liquid and gas systems.
• Inspect buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain required repairs and make recommendations to the Facility Manager.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, schematic manufacturer’s specifications, and other reference materials to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures.
• Maintain proficiency at current level and continually update knowledge through appropriate courses, seminars, publications and contacts with others in the trade.

Part-Time Carpenter

The Carpenter installs, maintains, finishes, and repairs architectural surfaces, structures, hardware, building system components, and structural elements. They also finish and repair equipment/furnishings within campus-wide structures and areas. A successful candidate will have a High School Diploma or equivalent and experience in carpentry practices. This position will be part of a small team of valued employees.

In this role, the Carpenter will prepare for campus carpentry projects by ensuring the proper tools, equipment and supplies are available at the job site; perform and complete indoor and outdoor general maintenance and repair projects throughout campus; clean equipment, tools, and shop area, including disposing of hazardous products to maintain the equipment and area in a safe and operational manner; and report to the Facilities Manager.
