Grammy-winning Cellist Brings Joy in Marlboro to Potash Hill

February 26, 2024

We are pleased to welcome “Joy in Marlboro” to Potash Hill this spring. Led by Grammy-winning cellist/composer Eugene Friesen and jazz great/author Kenny Werner, this musical retreat takes place on campus from May 16 to 19, 2024.

“Joy in Marlboro” is described as “a shortcut to a colorful, meaningful home routine that activates new neural pathways, explores new sounds, and shines light on your personal music.” Werner and Friesen invite participants to embark on a journey of renewal and discovery tailored for professional musicians seeking to reinvigorate and reinvent their personal practice. The retreat is limited to 25 participants, and the schedule is designed to foster intimate group settings, personal reflection, and transformative experiences.

Eugene Friesen has presented concerts on six continents, and his improvisations and original music have been featured with the Grammy Award-winning Paul Winter Consort, and in concerts on six continents. His students exemplify a new generation of creative and collaborative musicians steeped in music of the world. Kenny Werner has been a world-class pianist and composer for over 40 years. He received the 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship Award and wrote his landmark book, Effortless Mastery, Liberating The Master Musician Within, in 1996.
